vpr
what is vpr?
add vision to your abb robot the easy way.
VPR started off as an internal project to simplify our lives. Here is the problem we were trying to solve : Laser profilers would, theoratically, be incredibly usefull to detect the position of welding joints. Unfortunately, when you ask them for a measurement, off-the-shelf profilers answer with a line of a thousand 3D points and call it a day. That would be great, except for the fact that the robot needs the 1 point at the center of the joint, not a thousand spread out everywhere. So what we needed was a software that could pick out that 1 point and, at its core, that is what VPR is.
Now, today’s VPR is a software suite that allows a robot programmer to build production-ready programs that take full advantage of a laser profiler directly inside RobotStudio™.
The addin
100% offline programming and testing
The VPR addin completely simulates the laser profiler inside of RobotStudio. This allows the user to build the program and then test it. All in the simulation.
The HMI
processing the pictures is hard work
To run in production, a computer running VPR needs to be connected to the robot controller. The computer’s role is to process the RAW images coming from the profiler and then return the point at the center of the joint.
Poly-Robotics provides a simple HMI software with VPR. We also provide the libraries necessary to build your own or intgrate to VPR into an existing .NET HMI.
the hardware
use existing solutions when available
VPR is compatible with Baumer’s OXP200 line of sensor.
To achieve the best accuracy with VPR, the sensor needs an additional calibration done by Poly-Robotics. For use in a welding application, the sensor needs to be protected from spatter. For these reasons, we usually include a sensor and housing when selling VPR.
